I believe our bodies have the ability to heal themselves
What are you doing to support that?
The bone building process is a bit complex. Yoga for Bones provides you with a community of like minded souls to support your efforts to safely get strong and live better in your body.
Exercise is an important element to build and maintain strong bones. Using the tools of the physical practice of yoga we will be following the Fishman method to practice effectively and safely. There is a library of classes at all levels. The yoga poses we do in the classes will be featured in the “Pose Library”. These videos are a tutorial of the pose with different variations. This is a place to come if you are new to yoga or want to find a variation.
Learn about the 3 Pillars to strong bones
Our bones will adapt to the weight under which they are placed
We know from Wolff’s Law that our bones will adapt to the weight and stress under which they are placed and will remodel and become stronger to accommodate that stress. Yoga is weight bearing and your bones will benefit from the interesting angles of the body when in a yoga pose. Yoga also challenges your balance - an important element if you have bone loss.
Stress can be harmful for your bones
Stress can change the endocrine system, the system that produces hormones that help to regulate cell activity. This can lead to an excretion of calcium. Sustained high levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, can lead to increased health issues including osteoporosis, anxiety, and depression. Yoga has been shown to have significant impact in reducing cortisol levels.
Yoga for Bones addresses this with meditation classes, breath practices and restorative yoga.
Your bones need more than just exercise to stay strong
Vitamins and minerals are also an important component to strong bones. Does your body have the building blocks it needs? You may be taking calcium and vitamin D but what is your gut doing with them? Yoga for Bones has suggestions to help maintain a healthy gut.
Knowledge can be helpful when discussing with your health care provider so we have provided some areas to explore if you are puzzled about the root cause of your bone loss.
Yoga for Bones Community
We are here as a supportive community. Having a community of like minded people is good for our overall health. At Yoga for Bones you will be able to reach out to fellow students, a place you can both share and support one another.
I will also be offering live stream classes each week, with a short “chat time” at the end and beginning of class.
Even though we will not be together face to face I recognize you might also want to check in with me to adapt your practice for some other health reason. I will be available for virtual privates.
